[Androidme2018]- The IFA consumer electronics tradeshow in Berlin is drawing near. In addition to Samsung, LG and others, Sony has also been one of the manufacturers that consistently keeps smartphone highlights in store for the trade show, and it will continue in 2017 with three new Sony Xperia smartphones. On the heels of a recent XZ1 render leak, the XZ1 Compact press renders were just leaked in pink.

HTC U11 vs Sony Xperia XZ Premium: Which flagship wins?
Highlight recent changesYesNo
In the past, Sony Mobile has always showcased at least one compact and one flagship smartphone at the IFA in Berlin. Last year in 2016, they were the Sony Xperia XZ and X Compact, and 2015 saw the launch of the Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact on the Berlin exhibition grounds.
And it looks like 2017 will also see the debut of an Xperia trio in the smartphone world, and current leaks definitely point in that direction. The central theme for all new Xperia smartphones will be the Motion Eye camera, which we know from the XZ Premium and XZs, along with the 960 fps SuperSloMo.
Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact (G8841): Back to the compact flagship
Until IFA 2016, the Japanese smartphone manufacturer was known for its powerful smartphones with a display size under 5 inches. The compact line has always been characterized by high-end equipment in a handy size until the introduction of the X Compact in 2016. Unfortunately, Sony has abandoned this path in 2016 and used mid-range hardware in the Xperia X Compact. As a result, the X Compact did not receive our recommendation as the best compact smartphone in our review.
Sony wishes to return to high-end hardware again for 2017. The smartphone with the internal codename G8841 will probably be released with the Snapdragon 835, 4 GB RAM, a 2,800 mAh battery and, of course, the 19 MP Motion Eye camera. Since the Xperia XZ1 also bears the “Compact” moniker, we can expect a 4.6-inch Full HD display. Whether it will come with Android O or Nougat at first with an option to update remains to be seen.

According to a leak from a Polish online retailer, the XZ1 Compact will be available in four colors (Black, Horizon Blue, Snow Silver and Twilight Pink) and cost 2,749.99 PLN. When converted, that would be approximately $742.
What appear to be official press renders of the Xperia XZ1 Compact have leaked by reliable leaker Roland Quandt and WinFuture. Since there are no antenna lines, this may be a plastic body rather than a metal unibody. There's a thin metallic ring accenting the top and bottom of the phone. It's worth noting that the shade of pink is much less subtle than that of the XZ1, which was leaked on Amazon recently as you can see in the section below. This one is brighter and more orange.

Sony Xperia XZ1: The little brother of the XZ Premium
To date, the Xperia XZs has been the little brother of the 5.5-inch Xperia XZ Premium. Although the XZs had its big brother’s Motion Eye camera, it had to make do with a Snapdragon 820 on the inside. Rumors indicate that the XZ1 will be the true 5.2-inch offshoot of the XZ Premium at IFA 2017.
The presumed technical data of the smartphone internally designated as G8341 suggests that it is technically identical to the Xperia XZ Premium with the exception of the display (5.2 inches, Full HD), and the battery (3,000 mAh).
As it has done with the XZ1 Compact, the Polish online shop has also temporarily leaked the color variants and the prices for the XZ1. The colors match those of the XZ1 Compact and the XZ1’s price—at 3,206.99 PLN (approx. $866)—is just about a hundred dollars more than the Compact.
The reliable leaker Roland Quandt strikes again, this time with official renders of the Sony Xperia XZ1. These were leaked by an Amazon page briefly before being taken down, and feature the phone in black and pink.

Sony Xperia X1 to make a comeback without Windows Phone
Rumor has it that the Xperia X1 will be one of Sony’s IFA highlights. If the name sounds familiar to you, then it’s probably because the Xperia X1 was already released in 2008. However, Sony still used Windows Phone 6.1 for the Xperia X1 at the time and below its 3-inch display sat an optical trackpad that was used to navigate through the Windows Phone menus.

The Xperia X1 will probably not make its comeback in this form, but at least it’s recycling the name. Early rumors about the Xperia X1 (2017) say that it’s a smartphone with a still-unknown screen size and the mid-range Snapdragon 660 SoC by Qualcomm. Furthermore, rumors indicate that the chipset will come with 4 GB of RAM and that the smartphone will sport a 2,800 mAh battery. It’s very likely that the Xperia X1 will be the most affordable Sony smartphone with the Motion Eye camera.
